Red Roses visit Touchlines of Fortitude

Updated: Oct 22

Just two days after their Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 victory, several members of the Red Roses Rugby team visited The Beach Gallery in Teddington during the final week of the exhibition Touchlines of Fortitude.

The visit came after the players stopped at Teddington Ink next door to celebrate their World Cup win with new tattoos. Still wearing their gold medals, they laughed, shared stories and marked their triumph in ink.

Curator Agnieszka Lokaj, who was in the gallery at the time, stepped in to congratulate them and invited them to view the exhibition that had been inspired by their courage and spirit on the field.

“It was such a wonderful coincidence,” Agnieszka said. “Meeting the World Champions in person was incredible. Emily Scarratt was so grounded and warm, and having Megan Jones and Abbie Ward visit the gallery made the whole exhibition feel complete. It was as if the art had come full circle, meeting the stars who inspired it.”

Touchlines of Fortitude brought together local artists and writers to explore the themes of female resilience and visibility through sport. With the Women’s Rugby World Cup hosted in Twickenham, Agnieszka sought to merge art and sport, using creative expression to honour women who redefine strength on and off the pitch.

“I wanted to create something that captured what women’s rugby represents,” Agnieszka explained. “Resilience, camaraderie and power. With the World Cup taking place so close to home, it felt like the perfect moment to celebrate it through art.”

Several paintings inspired by the Red Roses are now on display at The Press Room in Twickenham, the spiritual home of rugby and host of the 2025 Women’s World Cup Final.

“It’s the ideal place to pause, caffeinate and reflect,” Agnieszka added. “The works will remain there until 5 January 2026.”
